9 Strokes Wire
Built From Experience
From Freelancer to Wire Service
9 Strokes Wire started as a simple idea: a platform for one photographer to distribute his own content. What it became is something larger — a full media wire service covering fashion, sports, and cultural events worldwide.
Founder Joe Matos spent seven years as a freelance photographer and videographer covering runway shows, swim weeks, and high-profile events. The work was real. The recognition was real. The pay was not.
The problem wasn’t the content — it was the model. Freelance photographers give away their work for access. Publications expect content for free. Brands take and rarely pay. The entire ecosystem is built on the backs of creators who never see a return on their investment.
9 Strokes Wire was built to change that — at least for one photographer, and eventually for every contributor on the platform.
“People don’t want to buy from a freelancer. They buy from a company. I built the company.”
— Joe Matos, FounderWhy 9 Strokes
The name is personal. Joe Matos survived nine strokes — a medical reality that could have ended everything. Instead it became the foundation of a brand built on resilience, urgency, and the refusal to slow down.
9 Strokes doesn’t sound like fashion. Neither does Getty. The name isn’t meant to signal one industry — it’s meant to signal a standard. Cinematic. Credible. Everywhere.
Fashion is where the wire started. Events, sports, culture, and global coverage is where it’s going.
What the Wire Does
9 Strokes Wire is a B2B media licensing platform. We capture 4K cinematic content at premier events — runway shows, swim weeks, sports events, cultural activations — and make it available for immediate editorial licensing to publications, agencies, and brands worldwide.
Every asset on the wire is properly tagged, watermarked for preview, and available for instant licensing. Buyers get broadcast-ready content. Contributors get a revenue share. Registered models get paid every time their content sells.
Based in Miami. Seven years covering runway shows, swim weeks, and fashion events across the United States.
Former house photographer for leading Miami fashion events. Now building the infrastructure that pays photographers fairly.
Joe started his career as a freelance creative — camera in hand, access negotiated in exchange for content. After years of watching his work published without compensation and his credits buried or removed entirely, he decided the only way to change the equation was to build a new one.
9 Strokes Wire is that new equation. A platform where the content creator owns the distribution. Where models earn from their own image. Where contributors get paid automatically. Where buyers get professional content at fair prices.
The wire launched in 2026 with coverage from NYFW SS25, Miami Swim Week, and Model Volleyball. Events worldwide are next.
